Electric Scooter Subsidies in Delhi: Maximizing Savings and Eco-Friendliness
With India's continued push towards clean and eco-friendly mobility, electric scooters have become increasingly popular in the nation's capital, Delhi. The Delhi government has introduced attractive subsidy initiatives to encourage more people to adapt to electric vehicles, aiming to reduce pollution in the city. One significant policy introduced is the Delhi EV Policy 2020, which offers various incentives for purchasing and owning an electric scooter in Delhi. The government has set a target of having 25% of all new vehicle registrations as electric vehicles by 2024.
Under the Delhi EV Policy 2020, electric scooter buyers can avail a purchase subsidy of Rs. 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity. For example, if an electric scooter has a battery capacity of 2 kWh, the buyer stands to receive a subsidy of Rs. 10,000 on their purchase. Most electric scooters available in the Indian market have a battery capacity ranging between 1 to 3 kWh, meaning the subsidy can make a significant impact on the final price.
This policy goes further by also offering an additional incentive for scrapping and deregistering old-ICE two-wheelers registered at least 10 years ago. With the scrapping incentive, buyers can receive up to an additional Rs. 5,000 subsidy, significantly reducing the cost of a new electric scooter.
Moreover, the Delhi government has waived off road tax and registration fees for electric scooters. This means buyers won't have to pay any extra charges on top of the subsidized purchase price, providing even further savings.
In summary, the Delhi EV Policy 2020 offers a purchase subsidy of Rs. 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity, along with additional incentives for scrapping old-ICE two-wheelers, making electric scooters a financially viable and eco-friendly choice for commuters. With the Indian government's continued push for electrification and attractive subsidies for electric scooter buyers, this mode of transport is poised to witness substantial growth in the coming years.
