As personally owned electric scooters slowly overtake the use of rentals in most major cities, riders are opting for lighter scooters and bikes that accommodate their environment and living situations. Multimodal trips are also on the rise - those that involving using an electric scooter for segments of the trip in addition to riding on traditional transit lines (buses & trains), where compactness and portability are essential.
Many of the development trends in the industry have seen higher-end models with larger motors and battery packs, which are preferred by some but certainly not everyone who is relying on e-scooters as a means for practical commuting and not just recreation.
