Are Electric Scooters Legal in Atlanta?

Electric scooters are permitted for use on the roads, in bike lanes, shared use paths, the BeltLine, and city parks. Riding on sidewalks is prohibited, and riders must follow all traffic laws. While there's no age limit for operating scooters set by the City of Atlanta, rental companies enforce their own age restrictions. Helmet use is strongly recommended but not mandated for riders over the age of 16. Operating scooters from dusk to dawn is generally not allowed. Scooters should be parked neatly without obstructing paths, doorways, driveways, crosswalks or landscaping, and should leave at least 5 feet of clear space on sidewalks.

No age limit for riding, however if renting an electric scooter: different companies have different age policies for rentals, so check with the specific company. Helmets are not required, but are strongly encouraged. Cannot operate a scooter from dusk to dawn.

We strongly encourage you to use a helmet while riding a scooter or bike, but it is not required by law for adults over the age of 16.
The City of Atlanta does not have an age requirement. However, each company sets their own age policy. Check with each company to verify their requirements.
